Thomas Sayre: New Work (2008) was an exhibition at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NC State University of sculptures and paintings by American artist Thomas Sayre. In the foreground, each Tree Spade Vessel is made from a unique casting made from reinforced concrete shot directly into earthen molds dug by a large, industrial tree spade. The earthcastings establish a balance between human-made and nature-made. The Tree Paintings series in the background are made from the effects of molten welding metal spread scattershot across wooden panels.
